Hola! My name is Emily- thanks for visiting Puravida Kids Club! When my family moved to Delaware two years ago I realized Middletown and surrounding areas needed more resources to support learning a second language outside of the academic classroom. Combining my background in languages and business, Puravida Kids Club is my vision to help Delaware families who want their children to be multi-lingual, acquire a new language through play and connection to the natural world around them.
“Puravida” is an expression commonly heard in the country of Costa Rica. Literally translated, Puravida means “pure life” but, more accurately, the expression reflects the joys of living, of appreciating the simple things in life. Inspired by the time I spent living in Costa Rica, I have raised my daughters in a bilingual environment with the spirit of Puravida in mind. I am excited to share my passion for raising bilingual kids through the programs and camps at Puravida Kids Club.
Preguntas Frecuentes/ Frequently Asked Questions:
Why learn Spanish? Isn’t English spoken everywhere?
Spain’s Cervantes Institute estimates that by 2050 Spanish will be the most-spoken language in the United States. Spanish is already the second most spoken language in the world followed by Mandarin. In the words of Nelson Mandela: “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.” Bilingual and multilingual children break down barriers and strengthen our communities. That’s what inspires our vision at Puravida Kids Club.
My child is already enrolled in a Delaware Spanish immersion program or dual language charter. What is the benefit for them?
Puravida Kids Club was designed specifically to support language development and reinforcement outside of the classroom! Research tells us that language acquisition in early learners is directly linked to both the quality and quantity of input the child receives in the target language. The more Spanish exposure they get through a variety of channels, the stronger your child becomes in speaking and comprehension. Puravida Kids Club supplements academic learning with additional exposure to the target language in a fun, immersive, outdoor setting with native speakers. Our goal is to expose children not just to the language but also to help them understand other cultures. Children learn and develop Spanish as they practice speaking with staff and learn new vocabulary through games, activities and music.
My child is not part of a Spanish immersion program, will my child still benefit?
Absolutely! If your child has had some basic exposure to Spanish (either at home or through extracurricular or specials classes at school), Puravida Kids Club will strengthen their exposure to the Spanish language and help them become more comfortable in language immersed environments. Children will learn by doing which fosters rich opportunities for second language growth.
What age is the program designed for?

What can I do to encourage language acquisition at home?
Regardless of whether you speak another language yourself, set aside time each week to learn together. Read or listen to a children’s book in Spanish (check out the Scholastic “Club Leo” Book Club for monthly opportunities to buy bilingual or Spanish books). Subscribe to podcasts like Duolingo’s Spanish Podcast or listen to the news via the “Slow Spanish” podcast. Convert card games like “Memory” or “Go Fish” into an opportunity to practice Spanish vocabulary!
Listening to music, family movie night and technology time can all be done in a second language! Search out upbeat “Latin Pop” stations on your favorite streaming service. Use Netflix to change your audio settings to Spanish with English subtitles and make family movie night a learning opportunity for everyone. If your child uses a tablet, download Spanish-language apps or subscribe to a service like Amazon Freetime Unlimited which now offers thousands of Spanish language apps, games and books on their Fire tablets.
